Scratching the Surface Project / Bucharest

Constantin Brâncuși redefined modern sculpture through direct carving, working straight into stone and wood rather than through casts. On 7 November 2016, during a Romanian trip that produced three murals, Vhils cut Brâncuși's likeness into the wall of Bucharest's National University of Arts for București – Orașul In-Vizibil. The homage resides in the method: one sculptor of raw material is excavated by another at the institution training Romania's next artists.
