In 2014 Alexandre Farto (Vhils) took part in the group exhibition "Do Valongo à Favela: imaginário e periferia" (From Valongo to Favela: the Imaginary and the Periphery) at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) in Rio de Janeiro, curated by Rafael Cardoso and Clarissa Diniz and on view from 27 May 2014 to 15 February 2015. For the museum he created a permanent intervention on the MAR terrace, a hand-carved bas-relief portrait of Edson da Silva Oliveiro, known as Seu Edinho, one of the oldest residents of the Morro da Providência favela. The work extends the artist's earlier project in Providência, where his team carved portraits of long-time residents whose homes faced demolition ahead of the World Cup and Olympic Games, and he additionally coordinated a stencil workshop in connection with the exhibition.
