Scratching the Surface Project, Paris, France — Walls work, 2013, Paris, France

Nuit Blanche has turned Paris into a free, all-night gallery since its launch in 2002. For its 12th edition, Vhils cut an unnamed face into a wall at rue Morand and rue de la Fontaine au Roi as a tribute to residents of the 11th arrondissement. Drawn out of the neighbourhood's own fabric, the portrait gives ordinary inhabitants a public scale during the city-wide event.
