Untitled (Rua do Porto, Rabo de Peixe)

A large-scale portrait of an elderly woman with glasses, smiling, carved in July 2013 into the gable wall of a ruined building at the foot of Rua do Porto, the street running down to the harbour of Rabo de Peixe, a fishing community on the north coast of São Miguel, Azores. The plaster was chiselled back to the wall's white glazed tiles, so the face emerges from the building's decaying layers and closes the view down the narrow street of brightly painted houses. Made during the Walk & Talk urban art festival as part of the Scratching the Surface project, it is one of two walls Vhils carved in Rabo de Peixe on that trip, alongside Sr. Bonança by the harbour.
