Empty Faces (Street Intervention, 2008)

A screaming face torn and cut from the accumulated layers of wheat-pasted advertising posters on a Portuguese street wall, with fragments of printed text left legible across the composition. Flanking posters — for the Delmare Café at Praia do Rouxinol, Costa da Caparica, and a Felix da Housecat club night dated Saturday 28 June — together with the artist's photograph filename date of 9 July 2008 place the intervention in the summer of 2008. It belongs to the early Empty Faces group of street interventions published on the artist's Cargo Collective portfolio, in which faces were excavated from the poster strata of the urban environment, and is distinct from the framed Empty Faces Series studio works of the same period.
