Unknown Icons

A series of experimental hand-finished screen prints in which a decayed halftone portrait surfaces through flooded washes of ink — ultramarine blue in some sheets, dark green and black in others — with sprayed haloes and heavy drips running to the paper's edge. The sheets were photographed in the studio, several lying stacked on a paint-spattered floor, recording successive states of over-inking and hand-finishing across the series. The artist published the group under the heading 'Unknown Icons' on his early Cargo Collective site, and a date-stamped studio photograph places the working session in May 2008.
