Open Walls Baltimore — Bell Foundry

This intervention was carved into the rear wall of the historic Bell Foundry at the corner of N Calvert Street and E Federal Street, in the spring of 2012, for the first edition of Open Walls Baltimore, curated by Gaia in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. Once home to one of the city’s major bell manufacturers and later occupied by artists, the building already carried several layers of industrial and cultural history. Vhils’ portrait emerged through those layers, turning the architecture’s physical transformation into part of the work itself.
