Hospital São João

This mural, made in 2020 during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, brings together the portraits of ten employees from the São João University Hospital Centre in Porto. Doctors and nurses appear alongside cleaning, kitchen, maintenance and administrative staff, recognising the many forms of labour that sustained the hospital through the crisis. Carved directly into its exterior wall, the work transforms a temporary moment of public gratitude into a permanent collective portrait.
