Olhar — Público (25 Years)

Olhar was made in 2016 to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the newspaper Público, covering its years of activity from 1990 to 2015, and sets journalism, memory and the construction of perception on the same surface. The work is composed of twenty-five superimposed acrylic sheets centred around the image of an eye, each layer incorporating fragments from a front page selected in collaboration with editor-in-chief Bárbara Reis. The piece does not present history as a fixed narrative; it reveals how contemporary events are accumulated, interpreted and continually reframed through the act of looking.
