In the former Lisnave shipyards in Almada, Portugal, once a centre of shipbuilding and repair, Vhils carved this large-scale 2014 portrait using his experimental technique with explosives, working into concrete weathered across the vast complex's decades of industrial labour, technological ambition and economic transformation. The face reconnects the shipyard with the generations of workers who shaped its history, treating the site's industrial memory as the material of the portrait itself.
