A wall at Taikoo Place Somerset House, 979 King's Road, Hong Kong, brought together Vhils and the Los Angeles duo CYRCLE. in 2013, developed for the duo's exhibition that opened at Underdogs in Lisbon on 12 July that year. CYRCLE.'s layered graphic compositions sit beside Vhils' subtractive process, where the portrait forms as the wall's own surface is cut away. The two languages stay distinct — painting and excavation coexist without merging — an ongoing dialogue between practices shaped by different urban contexts, with the wall itself standing as the site of exchange.
