This portrait of Brazilian activist and politician Marielle Franco (1979-2018), made in Lisbon in September 2018, belongs to Brave Walls, an initiative using public art to affirm democracy, equality and human rights. Executed within the Scratching the Surface project only months after Franco's assassination, it turned an act of remembrance into a public statement against political violence and intolerance. Carved into the wall, the portrait ties the permanence of her legacy to the architecture itself, opening the city's shared civic space to collective reflection and solidarity across borders.
