The Outsiders New York was a "hit-and-run" pop-up group show by Lazarides Gallery, held 26 September – 12 October 2008 at 282 Bowery (corner of Houston Street), Lower East Side. The opening reportedly attracted more visitors than a contemporaneous Gilbert & George retrospective at MoMA. Curated by Steve Lazarides, the exhibition presented a generation of artists whose work pushes the boundaries between street, graffiti and contemporary practice. Vhils, then 21 and emerging from the Cans Festival earlier that year, contributed an early chiselled portrait — one of his first showings in the US.
