Eurotrash — 2010, Los Angeles, United States

Eurotrash was a group exhibition presented by Lazarides Gallery, curated by Steve Lazarides, at its temporary Los Angeles pop-up space (320 North Beverly Drive), from 9 to 27 June 2010, bringing together four European artists: JR, Conor Harrington, Antony Micallef, and Vhils (Alexandre Farto). Vhils, the youngest artist on the roster, contributed works that reveal portraits through the removal and layering of surfaces, including chiselled bas-relief faces and peeled, torn fly-poster compositions. Around the exhibition he also realised outdoor interventions in downtown Los Angeles, including a large carved wall portrait made alongside JR. The show was the second in a sequence of pop-up exhibitions staged by the gallery in the city.
