The image is excavated from a dense accumulation of advertising posters: the white top layer is torn away by hand in successive rounds, letting fragments of colour, print and half-legible imagery from the strata beneath form the figure. Studio documentation, dated May 2022, records the portrait across three photographed rounds of tearing, each panel captured in four progressive states.
