Untitled (East London Billboard)

A white-pasted advertising hoarding cut and torn to reveal a composition in which a cluster of tower blocks resolves, at the right, into a man's face; the work is signed VHILS at the lower right and strips of blue backing paper hang loose along its edges. It is mounted on a dark brick wall in East London, beneath a Victorian industrial warehouse with metal-framed windows. The artist locates the work in London and dates it to around 2008–2009, the period of his early London billboard interventions. It is distinct from the framed Empty Faces studio works of the same era.
