Suspenso

In Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Vhils completed Suspenso in January 2021, just before a new lockdown halted public life across Europe. Carved into the village's characteristic ochre render, the portrait draws its strength from continuity with the historic architecture around it, becoming part of the place. The title points to a state of uncertainty. Without naming the pandemic, the work has come to mark the threshold between two radically different moments.
