Vhils carved this 2012 wall in Mexico City's historic centre for the inaugural All City Canvas festival, part of the international expansion of the Scratching the Surface project. The festival aimed to expand public art's role in the city and open dialogue between local and international artists. Working into the wall's accumulated layers, Vhils exposed the human dimension held within the built surface. The piece no longer survives, but it marks Scratching the Surface's spread into different urban contexts, each intervention still shaped by the material character of its own site.
