Out in the Open

For KIRK Gallery's Out in the Open programme, this intervention brought Vhils' Scratching the Surface language to Aalborg for the first time. Carved into the façade at Christiansgade 1A, the anonymous portrait becomes part of a project initiated in 2014 to move art beyond the gallery and into the shared space of the city. The work commemorates no particular figure: it places an ordinary human presence within the architecture, letting the wall and the traces accumulated across its surface shape the image.
