The inaugural edition of START – Street Art Fest, curated by Square23 Gallery, brought this temporary intervention to the Mediolanum Forum's Assago Summer Arena over four days in June 2016, where street art, music and other urban cultures converged. The festival commissioned site-specific works that turned the venue into an open-air exhibition for the length of the event. Working through his ongoing Scratching the Surface project, Vhils carved into a purpose-built wall whose meaning lay in the act of intervention itself; it was removed once the festival ended. The piece reflects the project's growing international reach and its capacity to adapt to contexts defined by change.
