Carved into the layered walls of a residential building in the Ladeira dos Tabajaras favela, Copacabana, this 2013 portrait depicts a bearded local resident. The piece is part of Vhils' long-running series of interventions in communities undergoing rapid urban transformation across Rio de Janeiro. Rooted in the site itself, the work sets the resident's likeness into the accumulated material of the building he lives among, folding individual identity into the fabric of the neighbourhood.
