Presented in Juncal do Campo, in the Castelo Branco district, during the Festival Aldeias Artísticas / Há Festa no Campo in June 2015, this intervention brought Vhils' practice into a rural village, supported by Fundação EDP and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation as part of a programme linking contemporary art to the villages of Beira Baixa. Installed on a traditional house at Rua Nova N.º 4, Juncal do Campo, the work responded to the material and social history of the village, extending the layered narratives of Scratching the Surface beyond metropolitan settings.
