On Calle 9 Norte, in Cali's Centenario district, this March 2010 intervention dates from the period when Vhils was testing his emerging subtractive language against markedly different urban environments. The building façade offered no permanent or protected support: existing coatings, structural irregularities and exposure to later alteration determined both the image and its lifespan. Working through scratching and carving, Vhils turned an ordinary architectural surface into a temporary point of encounter. The work has since been destroyed, as recorded in the artist's archive — its disappearance evidence of the vulnerability these early interventions accepted, their histories continuing through documentation after the physical supports changed.
