This wall intervention at Line 204 Studios, 1034 Seward Street, Hollywood, was produced in 2019, following Vhils' 2018 solo exhibition Annihilation at Over the Influence in the Arts District, and extends the exhibition's reflection on the global influence of Los Angeles and the gradual erosion of local identities. Carved into the architecture of the city, the portrait introduces an individual presence within a landscape strongly associated with the production and circulation of images. The work connects the physical act of removing material with a broader examination of how cultural identities are continuously shaped, exported and transformed.
