” “Trace” is an attempt to look into and explore the development of my work throughout the last six years, examining the progression of my approach to the various mediums I work with and how my attitude towards imagery is in constant mutation and evolution. An increasing positioning towards abstraction, as seen through faces on billboards and other forms of portraiture, accompanies the intensification of globalisation and digitalization our world is undergoing – a metaphor for how our identities are becoming more intertwined and mashed up, while our individual intricacies begin to fade or merge into a pastiche of lettering, billboards and advertisements. Similarly, the creation of work on materials that have been left to rot and are seen as garbage reflects traces of faces that passed through, increasingly forgotten and fading more with each day. As fossils and frescoes of our contemporary times, they are a testimony of the particular moment we are currently living. My interest lies in trying to understand how these works will be perceived fifty years from now. Will they be a window to a recent past and evolve with us, or fossils of a decaying civilization that progressively gave up its freedom in the name of comfort? Or, conversely, will they be seen as relics of the best of times? These questions remain, and the verdict of the final answer is up to us.”
