Vhils has teamed up with Avant Arte for a special release of two new Diorama 3D print editions.

“Vista Series #02” and “Vista Series #03” – both 3D nylon SLS print editions in a custom-made wooden frame – will be available at avantarte.com from 13 November on.

Founded in 2015 by Christian Luiten and Curtis Penning, Avant Arte is a digital platform for collectible arts working on online and offline initiatives that empower the new art collector and help artists to reach the right audience.

The two editions are inspired by Vhils’ Dioramas body of works. First presented in 2012, Vhils has been developing this series by making use of materials such as polystyrene foam, cork sheeting, or cement as sculptural mediums in order to create three-dimensional artworks.

An eloquent materialisation of the notion of reciprocal shaping—a concept expressing the fundamental relationship between the individual and the surrounding environment, by which both develop a shared character—these sculptural panoramas blend human portraits with cityscapes. Each piece can be read either as the depiction of a human face, when viewed from a distance, or a detailed urban landscape, when seen from up-close. Inherent to these elaborate architectural pieces is a poetic interplay of light and shadow that brings them to life.
