Vhils took part in the 'Underdogs' group exhibition at Vera Cortês Art Agency, Lisbon, in November 2010, contributing a portrait carved in situ into the gallery's plaster wall under the Scratching the Surface project. The male face, excavated through the white render to expose the layers beneath, was documented by the photographer Target and destroyed at the close of the show, in keeping with the ephemeral nature of the intervention. The exhibition preceded the Underdogs platform that Vhils went on to co-found as a gallery and public art programme in Lisbon, whose records on this site begin in 2013.
