The Cans Festival — Other Media work, 2008, London, United Kingdom

The Cans Festival was a landmark unauthorised street-art event organised by Banksy in May 2008, held in Leake Street, the disused Eurostar service tunnel beneath London Waterloo station. Over a single weekend, the tunnel was transformed into a 200-metre-long open-air gallery of stencil work, with artists invited from across the world to paint freely on the walls. Vhils (Alexandre Farto) participated as one of the youngest international artists invited, contributing a chiselled portrait directly into the tunnel's wall surface — an early public showing of the carving technique that would become his signature. None of the pieces survive. A second piece, created with Hium for The Cans Festival 2 in August 2008, has also been destroyed.
