Alquimia. Solo exhibition at Usina Luis Maluf, São Paulo (19 October – 19 December 2023). Vhils explores collective memory through records of struggle and utopia, presented as deteriorated, ghostly images that hold both hope and bankruptcy. The title — alchemy — references the inexplicable feeling generated when people unite, alongside the chemical bonding processes Vhils employs: acids and corrosives that rust and dismantle surface layers across billboards, walls, doors and metal, revealing deeper strata through archaeological deconstruction.
