FESTIVAL IMINENTE LONDON
NEW ART AND NEW MUSIC FROM EUROPE’S UNDERGROUND
Featuring Vhils x Fatboy Slim
OLD TRUMAN BREWERY, LONDON
FRIDAY 19, SATURDAY 20 & SUNDAY 21 OCTOBER, 2018
Festival Iminente is returning to London, once again invading The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. A three-day festival of explosive and experimental Portuguese and international art and music, Festival Iminente brings the soul of Lisbon to the heart of London.
Curated by Portuguese artist Vhils and Lisbon’s Underdogs Gallery, Festival Iminente not only offers the chance to immerse yourself in the most innovative new music and art from Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries, but also enlists some of the world’s most creatively exciting artists and music acts to invade the capital with their best work.
This year’s festival will see the unveiling of a visual artwork from world renowned DJ, Fatboy Slim. A multimedia collaboration with Vhils, the work combines video and music and was created in a cultural exchange that saw each artist visit each other’s studios in Lisbon and Brighton.
Vhils comments: “I am honoured to collaborate with such a global cultural icon, whose music has been the soundtrack to our lives. Fatboy Slim is a fearless and visionary artist much loved in the Portuguese-speaking world. He played an unannounced DJ set at the sell-out Festival Iminente in Lisbon in September to an ecstatic crowd and I can’t to unveil this artwork to a British audience.”

FESTIVAL IMINENTE
Created in Portugal in 2016, Festival Iminente combines the new music with the new art in an experience of intense collective intimacy.
Iminente is everything that is happening or is about to happen. It is the materialisation of a creative movement which, over the last few years, has added contemporaneity and creativity to Portugal’s new art and music scenes.
Curated by Portuguese visual artist Vhils and Lisbon-based Underdogs Gallery, Festival Iminente translates the creative multicultural atmosphere that is flourishing in Lisbon and is spreading throughout the world, leading the Lusophone matrix to dialogue with other cultures and artistic expressions.
Its line-up represents the cultural vanguard of those who are expanding their art in new directions; challenging, questioning, exploring. Celebrating its explosive, urban, vital, ephemeral, and unexpected nature.
THIS IS WHAT IT WAS LIKE LAST YEAR IN LONDON:
CURATED BY VHILS
In parallel with his artistic practice, Alexandre Farto aka Vhils is one of the greatest activists of the new Portuguese art and a promoter of Portuguese culture around the world. Together with his intense international activity and his extensive network of associates, partners, and friends in the world of public art, the activity of Underdogs Gallery has enabled the creation of spaces of visibility for Portuguese artists and for an international exchange which has been contributing towards increasing the quality of the work produced in Portugal as well as the export of Portuguese talents in this field.
This activism contributes towards the visibility of new art forms emerging from urban cultures, on the sidelines of the dominant culture, to occupy today a space of expression that is adequate to the creative and artistic quality they reveal.
Summing up the project, Vhils states: “Festival Iminente is a celebration of art and music rooted in the mission of promoting internationally the freshest forms of creative expression that have been emerging from the various urban culture scenes that are turning Lisbon into a global cultural hotspot, as well as creating a creative dialogue between Portuguese-speaking artists, international artists, and a global audience. At its heart lies the desire to establish a new creative community focused on breaking down walls, barriers, and borders and bringing together people from different cultures who share a love for art, music, and ideas.”
